# Voice Line Viewer > Browse, search, and listen to character voice lines, quotes, and conversations from Deadlock, Overwatch, and Apex Legends. This file is a full-text companion to https://vlviewer.com/llms.txt. It repeats the site overview and inlines every blog post so agents can answer questions without extra fetches. Created by [Mcall](https://mcallbos.co). ## Site - Home: https://vlviewer.com/ - Blog: https://vlviewer.com/blog - Contributors: https://vlviewer.com/contributors - Game viewers: Deadlock https://deadlock.vlviewer.com; Overwatch https://overwatch.vlviewer.com; Apex Legends https://apex.vlviewer.com ## Blog posts ## VLViewer 2.0 - URL: https://vlviewer.com/blog/2026-9VLViewer2 - Markdown: https://vlviewer.com/blog/2026-9VLViewer2.md - Date: 2026-09-28 - Category: Website Update - Description: Bringing Deadlock, Apex, and Overwatch to parity while adding a ton of new stuff. Featured image: https://vlviewer.com/blog/2026/9/vlviewer-2/apex.png If you know VLViewer (and I'm assuming you do if you're reading this), you probably know it for the Deadlock site. However, there have been [Apex](https://apex.vlviewer.com/) and [Overwatch](https://overwatch.vlviewer.com/) versions since the start. They haven't always been as polished or as up to date as Deadlock. The Apex one was particularly dismal. But no more. Overwatch and Apex are now first-class citizens, with the same core tools for browsing, searching, and comparing voice lines and conversations. ![The updated Apex Legends site, with a game version selector and character cards.](https://vlviewer.com/blog/2026/9/vlviewer-2/apex.png) ![The updated Overwatch site, with version selection, a featured quote, and character cards.](https://vlviewer.com/blog/2026/9/vlviewer-2/overwatch.png) This comes alongside a ton of other changes. Behind the scenes, I've reworked how the sites are built and how game content is delivered, making it easier to deploy updates across all three games. On the site itself, there are historical game versions, version comparisons, better sharing, and plenty of smaller things you may have noticed over the past few weeks. Let's go over some of them. ## Multiple Game Versions You can now browse older game versions instead of only seeing the latest one. Deadlock's archive goes all the way back to its earliest public builds, and the lists for Apex and Overwatch are growing too. Pick a version from the **Game version** dropdown on the homepage to browse its voice lines and conversations, including dialogue that's since been changed or removed. ## Version Diffs You can also compare two versions to see what changed between them. The **Patches** page breaks changes down into added and removed lines, changed audio, transcript edits, moved lines, and conversation changes. You can narrow things down by character or search for something specific, then listen to the before and after recordings. ![A version comparison showing Haze's old and new dialogue about Venator, with transcript changes highlighted.](https://vlviewer.com/blog/2026/9/vlviewer-2/version-diffs.png) There's plenty of interesting stuff to discover here, including in Overwatch and Apex (which surprised me). Try the Patch Explorer for [Deadlock](https://deadlock.vlviewer.com/patches/), [Apex](https://apex.vlviewer.com/patches/), or [Overwatch](https://overwatch.vlviewer.com/patches/). ## Discord Embeds Links to voice lines and conversations now get playable video previews in Discord! These are new too. They're FxTwitter-style embeds, based on Bluesky cards, that let you read the transcript and play the audio right in the chat. A big thanks to the [FxEmbed project, which powers FxTwitter and FixupX](https://github.com/FxEmbed/FxEmbed), for making its X/Twitter embed source code available. For pages without videos, I'm also using Discord's new **component embeds** to provide richer link previews. If you're curious about how those work, here's [Discord's documentation proposal](https://github.com/discord/discord-api-docs/pull/8606). You may have noticed those component embeds on voice-line and conversation previews for a while too. Unfortunately, that combination was too prone to breaking, so those pages now use the new FxTwitter-style video previews instead. ## Conversation Lines in Voice-Line Search Searching for a voice line now also searches dialogue from conversations, with those matches appearing below the regular voice-line results. If you remember a quote but don't remember whether it was a standalone line or part of a conversation, you can look for it in one place. ## Deadlock-Specific Updates ### More Portrait Options There are now **seven fan-made portrait packs** to choose from, including Art Brawl Portraits, Catlock, Heavy Shadows, Jill, Remlock, Robo's Deadlock Portraits, and Toasted. That's in addition to the official portraits and their different variants. I've also added a [Portraits gallery](https://deadlock.vlviewer.com/portraits/) where you can browse the packs, explore their variants, and find credits for the artists and modders behind them. ![Art Brawl Portraits in the new gallery, with pack and variant selectors and artist credits.](https://vlviewer.com/blog/2026/9/vlviewer-2/portraits.png) You can also [make tier lists using your favorite artists' portraits](https://deadlock.vlviewer.com/portraits/tier-list/), so your character rankings can have a look of their own. ### New Conversation Styles Back in the [May update](https://vlviewer.com/blog/2026-5ItsBeenAwhile), I mentioned wanting to add more conversation views inspired by Deadlock's in-game chat. Those are here now! **Top Chat** and **Old Top Chat** join **Game Chat**, so you can choose a look inspired by either the current game or its pre-2026 chat. ![Rem and Silver's conversation displayed in the Top Chat style, with character portraits and speech bubbles.](https://vlviewer.com/blog/2026/9/vlviewer-2/top-chat.png) ![Venator and Rem's conversation displayed in Old Top Chat, with two character portraits between the speakers.](https://vlviewer.com/blog/2026/9/vlviewer-2/old-top-chat.png) Open a conversation and use the **Style** selector below it to try them out. Each style has its own settings, so have a look through those too. [Here's the Rem and Silver conversation shown above](https://deadlock.vlviewer.com/conversations/20587ec004869cc52869c83895f8c653/). ### A New Transcript Editor For Deadlock lines that still rely on speech-to-text, there's now an editor for suggesting corrections directly on the site. You can listen to related recordings, fix the text, and merge transcripts when recordings from different versions say the same thing. If a recording belongs on its own, you can separate it out too. ![The transcript correction editor showing related generated and official transcripts, recording playback, and a reviewer note field.](https://vlviewer.com/blog/2026/9/vlviewer-2/transcript-editor.png) You can also mark a recording as **non-speech** when it's a grunt, noise, or other sound that speech-to-text has mistaken for words. Your changes are submitted for review, and official transcript text stays protected from direct edits. ## A Few Other Changes There's been a lot going on, so here are a few more additions worth checking out. - **Individual voice-line history.** The Revisions window lets you listen to different recordings of a line, compare transcripts, and share a specific version. You can also use the **Audio differences** and **Transcript differences** filters on the voice lines page to find lines that have changed across versions. ![Haze's voice-line widget, with the Revisions icon immediately to the left of the share button.](https://vlviewer.com/blog/2026/9/vlviewer-2/voiceline-widget.png) Click the Revisions icon to the left of the share button to open the window below. ![The Revisions window showing Haze's dialogue about Venator in two game versions, with playback and sharing controls.](https://vlviewer.com/blog/2026/9/vlviewer-2/revisions.png) - **More conversation filters.** Overwatch conversations can now be filtered by map, setting, and content type where the game data supports it. Some also have a **Trigger Conditions** section showing the conditions associated with their lines. These features are only available for Overwatch conversations for now, but I'll be adding them to voice lines and Deadlock in the future. - **More options for custom conversations.** You can remix an existing conversation, give individual lines their own speaker names and portraits, and use uploaded images for local previews and screenshots. Shared custom conversation links now remember the selected conversation style too. - **Random homepage quotes.** The homepage now has playable quotes from the selected game version, with a button to get another quote and a link to open the original voice line or conversation. - **Shortcuts to removed Deadlock dialogue.** Some unfinished characters now have links on their pages that take you straight to their archived voice lines. I'll add more of these shortcuts in the future. - **More character artwork.** Deadlock's character directory now uses the same styled cards as the homepage, and character backdrops can use artwork from the selected game version. - **Performance and mobile improvements.** I've improved caching and reduced repeated work when browsing, along with fixes for mobile menus, portrait pickers, scrolling, and screenshot exports on iOS and Firefox. A big thanks to everyone who has contributed corrections, made portrait packs, reported bugs, or suggested features. If you have more ideas, please leave them in the [VLViewer thread on the Deadlock Discord](https://discord.com/channels/1231286446472691825/1410736031598121102). --- ## Custom Portraits, Custom Conversations, and More Customizations! - URL: https://vlviewer.com/blog/2026-5ItsBeenAwhile - Markdown: https://vlviewer.com/blog/2026-5ItsBeenAwhile.md - Date: 2026-05-26 - Category: Deadlock - Description: You can now use portraits from your favorite artists! Featured image: https://vlviewer.com/blog/2026/5/2026-5-update.png If you were here on April 1, you probably remember Catlock Viewer. Now you can somewhat relive that day by setting your character portraits to DieChance's Catlock, Jill's Jill's Mod, or ToastyGhostey's Deadlock Toasted. If those aren't to your taste, you can also choose from the standard in-game critical, gloat, minimap, and normal portraits. You can also pick which icon a character should use when you hover over them or when they're speaking. ![2026-5 Update](https://vlviewer.com/blog/2026/5/2026-5-update.png) You may have noticed a few things about that conversation. It's not real, even though you can [view it here](https://deadlock.vlviewer.com/custom-conversation/?c=N4IgbiBcCMA0IBsoG1kAZ4BMCeA7AhgLYD2I8A6gKYDkATpQAQDC+ALgM4CEIAurMnBD4ARrSLsyIAJLVCDXMVYA6XvwwhCAYwDmAS1y5dE+FIaZiuaqwasAFvoDWDAO6NnxAK4JM84rUL4CAjYDOz4IXZGoaweAGax3Dw8AL5AA), the screenshot doesn't look like the normal conversation view, and it's cropped more than usual. That's because there are three other new features: custom conversations, generated screenshots, and a new conversation view. You can now make custom conversations directly from the conversations page. These conversations can be shared with links, though the links can get pretty long. There's also a screenshot button that will generate a screenshot for you, and a new "Game Chat" conversation view designed to emulate the in-game chat. I plan to add more views in the future, such as the old deadlock chat and the chat that appears on the top of the screen. There have also been a bunch of smaller updates you may not have noticed over the past few months. The font for voicelines now defaults to the in-game chat font, though you can disable that in the settings. There are also many new settings for customizing your experience, which you can access by clicking the top-right corner of the navbar. Localization options are now available as well, though some of them have been rolled out for a while. Deadlock has a fairly complete Chinese localization, along with some less-complete localizations you can choose from. I've also added settings and optimizations for people who visit the site with translation software. Where possible, you should be able to see your language's official subtitles while still using machine translation for the rest of the site, with clear indicators of what is hand-translated versus machine-translated by looking at the text source flag. Please feel free to leave feedback in the Discord on how I can improve this experience. There are also now fan-made localizations. Russian is currently the only one available, but please contact me if you are involved with a community localization project and would like your work to appear on the site. Finally, there have been a bunch of backend changes and optimizations. Hopefully everything should feel a bit snappier, and these changes should help me release updates more quickly in the future. If you have any feedback, please let me know in the [VLViewer thread on the official Discord](https://discord.com/channels/1231286446472691825/1410736031598121102). I, Mcall, am the sole developer, so I may take a bit to respond, but I try to take all feedback into account. --- ## Update Recap! - URL: https://vlviewer.com/blog/2026-1UpdateRecap - Markdown: https://vlviewer.com/blog/2026-1UpdateRecap.md - Date: 2026-02-22 - Category: Deadlock - Description: Take a look at some stats from the update period. So, the website is much more accurate now. It has also allowed me to add other localizations to the website (In transcript only form for now, until dubs are added to the game. I plan to support all dubs as soon as they are added.) One of the Deadlock Devs linked to my website in the discord! Kaori, if you are here, hi! ![Kaori](https://vlviewer.com/blog/2026/Jan/dev.png) I received my first Kofi donation related to the VLViewer. Beyza, if you are reading this, thank you again. ## The Future If you have read this far, thank you. I am very hungry for suggestions for features and anything else related to the website, so if you have any ideas or suggestions for changes I should make, please feel free to post in the [VLViewer thread on Discord](https://discord.com/channels/1231286446472691825/1410736031598121102), and @ me (@Mcall). I don't have any major updates to the website planned at this point, but your suggestions could help change that. I do plan to push new content ASAP when it comes out however, so hopefully you should see those types of updates the same day new content is released. The current approach to transcript localizations is experimental and subject to change. My assumption is that most users will autotranslate the web UI, which means the English voiceline text will get autotranslated and be displayed alongside the official transcript translations for lines that have them. This is why I added the flag to each line, and the option to hide the base english transcriptions if desired. If applicable, I'd like to hear what you think about the current setup and how it could be improved. VlViewer will always remain ad free, and I have no plans to monetize. ~Mcall --- ## There are now official transcriptions! - URL: https://vlviewer.com/blog/2026-1OfficalTranscriptions - Markdown: https://vlviewer.com/blog/2026-1OfficalTranscriptions.md - Date: 2026-01-25 - Category: Deadlock - Description: Most transcriptions should now be completely accurate. Recently, Deadlock added a file with english and chinese transcriptions to the game. You can see it for yourself if you open your game files and navigate to Deadlock\game\citadel\resource\localization\citadel_generated_vo. You can even see transcriptions for the upcoming character's voicelines! (However, I wont be publishing them to the website until the voiceline files are added, since it seems like an oversight, given that the audio files were removed). While it covers most audio files, it doesn't cover all, so Speech to Text software will still be used for voicelines without a transcription. You can tell if a transcription is official or not by the presence of the edit button. A big thanks to all of the contributors to the transcript project over the last 6 months, I appreciate each and every contribution. Hopefully there should be less manual corrections required now. [https://vlviewer.com/contributors](https://vlviewer.com/contributors) When characters drop, I will aim to have the content on the website uploaded within 30 minutes (Assuming valve does the drop at 5pm est). By the way, did you know the VLViewer covers over 97% of all the voice files in the game? You can view which ones are missed at [https://deadlock.vlviewer.com/coverage/](https://deadlock.vlviewer.com/coverage/). The missed ones are due to weird file names and being old test files that do not have relevance to the current game. --- ## Jan 2026 update! - URL: https://vlviewer.com/blog/2026-1Fullupdate11 - Markdown: https://vlviewer.com/blog/2026-1Fullupdate11.md - Date: 2026-01-22 - Category: Deadlock - Description: Tons of new lines for exsisting characters!
